Pure Obagi Skincare Review

Pure Obagi Review

Hello everyone, welcome to and thanks for stopping by!.

In this article, I want to talk to you about a truly exceptional product that I recently tested and which I fell in love with! This product was gifted and my review is based on using this in my skincare routine for the past 4 weeks.

Since my job is being a bridal makeup artist, I am often lucky enough to try skincare products and be able to use and advise them in my work.

Today I want to talk to you about Obagi Daily Hydro-Drops Facial Serum by Pùre Obagi, a company that strongly believes in the importance of taking care of the skin and in global diversity, testing its products on all skin types.

Not everyone knows that the face serum is a fundamental product in the skincare routine, the treatment that really makes the difference, benefiting the skin from all the necessary nutrients and amplifying the properties of the creams applied subsequently.

Face serums are lightweight products that contain a high concentration of active ingredients. They absorb quickly into your skin, making them an excellent next step after cleansing.”

Obagi Daily Hydro-Drops Facial Serum, is a serum with a very light texture, non-comedogenic, also perfect for the eye contour, highly moisturising and anti-ageing thanks to the presence of the essential fatty acids Omega-9 and Omega-6 and the vitamin B3.

Why was I so happy after using it?

My skin is very demanding and sensitive because of the acne medication I currently use, and for this reason, I always have some perplexity and fear to try new products: (but I’ve decided to give it a chance and … WOW! It felt luxurious, a real cuddle for my skin, I felt it extra hydrated and plumped. Its light texture is perfect for my problematic skin, so light and not greasy at all.

So I thought: “Why not recommend this exceptional product also to brides to prepare their skin for the most important day of their life?“. When the skin of the face is relaxed, supple and hydrated, the makeup will last longer and the effect will be even more wonderful!. In addition, it is really easy to use, and the results will not be long in coming.

I was right not to let myself be taken by doubts and to try Obagi Daily Hydro-Drops Facial Serum for me and for you, a luxurious surprise!

Don’t forget to visit for other very interesting articles, all the bridal news and info.

See you soon ; ).

3 Steps to Booking a Makeup Artist for your Wedding Day

Every bride wants to look their absolute best on their wedding day. Not only will every eye in the house be on you, but it will also be the most photographed you will ever be… Oh and you’ll also want to be at your most gorgeous when you commit to your husband.  All of these factors, plus the fact that your wedding is the biggest excuse to truly pamper yourself means that booking a makeup artist is a bridal essential.

So how do you choose a makeup artist?

The first thing to do is look through their portfolio. All makeup artists should have a website and social media pages. Showcasing previous clients that display the rich variety of looks that they have achieved.  You should also get a ‘feel’ that they can adapt each look to work with your individual style and personality. Once you’re happy with the makeup artist’s work, it can be an idea to scroll through the testimonials. They are a great way of gauging how happy previous clients are and what to expect from the service.

Finally, you need to speak with the makeup artist. They should do all they can to answer your questions and put you at ease. I believe a makeup artist shouldn’t JUST have makeup skills. It’s equally important that they can help the bride relax as she prepares for the biggest day of her life.

When do you book your makeup artist?

You need to book as early as possible. Like all wedding suppliers, you will find that the makeup artists also get booked up in advance. Make contact as soon as you are ready to get the ball rolling. Ideally, you’ll have chosen your theme, colour scheme and dress before you have your trial. This way you can really work together to utilise these elements when creating the perfect look for you.

I suggest booking your trial around 2-3 months before the wedding. If you are planning on having a fake tan, you need to experiment with that around this time. It’s a great idea to come to the trial with the tan you intend on getting married in. Same goes for hair colour. Although your makeup artist should be able to adapt to skin and hair colourings easily, you’ll feel much more confident if you have established the exact look with time to spare.

If you are planning on having your brows shaped professionally. It is wise to do this just before the trial because your eyebrows frame your face. It can be surprising how different your brow shape can make you look.

What should you expect from your makeup consultation?

Keep a Pinterest board of anything wedding related including some beaut makeup and hair looks that you LOVE! Your MUA can recreate them to suit your facial features and colouring. If you’re not sure where to start, your makeup artist can suggest some styles that will look incredible on you! You can then try them out until you have something that you absolutely adore.

Makeup artists love to get feedback during the trial. Try to be constructive and let us know your thoughts and we will make you look like a million dollars! The makeup artist you book should be happy to keep tweaking until you have a look that you are completely happy with.

It’s a good idea to book your makeup trial and hair trial for the same day, to see how the styles work together. Ideally, you’ll have your hair styled first as certain hairstyles bring out different features and I can work your makeup to tie in with this. It’s also an idea if you wear an outfit with colour in a similar shade to your wedding dress.  Different colours will have a different impact on your skin tone and give a different impression.

Looking after your skin

Looking after your skin is vital in the run-up to the wedding. Not only is flawless skin an integral part of the final makeup look, but all the stress in the build-up to the wedding can lead to breakouts or dry skin.

Your skin takes around 4 weeks to renew itself so you need to get into a good skincare routine at least a month before the big day. You may also want to take a vitamin supplement that is made to boost your skin’s health. As well as cleansing and moisturising twice a day, it’s a good idea to invest in a good quality eye cream and moisturiser that suits your skin. Use a face/sheet mask to feel pampered and importantly implement a (BHA) exfoliant into your daily regime.

Facials are a great way to boost your skin’s radiance and get a really thorough cleanse. It’s a good idea to start getting monthly facials 6 months before the big day. This means that by the time of your trial your skin will be in great condition. If you know you don’t react to a specific facial, it can be nice to get one the week before the wedding for optimum skin on the big day.

Just wanted to say thank you so so much for the amazing work you did at the wedding! My make up stayed flawless throughout the whole day and I don’t know when I’ve seen my mum look so beautiful. I would have no hesitation at all in recommending you to anyone who needed a makeup artist You were also just a lovely, friendly and calm presence on the day which really helped! Aarohi Shah

Post Covid-19 Working for Makeup Artists

covid-19 working

Post Covid-19 Working for Beauty Pro’s

It goes without saying that recently life has changed considerably. We have gone from being able to move around freely, shop, see our friends and socialise, to not being able to do any of these things, or having to think about new ways to do these things.

Plenty of industries and areas have been impacted by Covid-19 and one in particular that I would like to highlight is the beauty industry.

Hairdressers, nail technicians, beauty therapists, and makeup artists. All of these businesses have had to stop trading completely for the past few months, which has had a huge impact on them.

Whilst it does look likely that these types of businesses will be able to open up in the near future, the realisation is that things will be different for the owners and the clients alike. Hygiene has always been a vital part of running any beauty business, but things are set to get even stricter. To help you to make sure that you fit in with all the regulations, here are some of the things that you are going to need to focus on in a post- Covid-19 working world.

Make sure you are aware of how the infection can be transmitted

There is absolutely no way that you can protect yourself and your clients if you bury your head in the sand and don’t learn as much as you can about how the Covid-19 (among other infections) can be transmitted. Invest in the correct sterilisation, disinfection, and sanitation methods to prevent and control coronavirus. If you are feeling anxious about going back to work it’s a great idea to take an accredited course on Hygiene Standards. You will return to work with confidence knowing you are up-to-date with the latest Health + Safety Covid-19 Working Guidelines.

Wear PPE

Personal Protective Equipment is going to become a key part of protecting yourself against Covid-19 as well as protecting your clients. It is vital that you learn which PPE is right for you to wear. At the least you will need gloves and a mask, however, you may also want to think about visors and Perspex screens too, should you think that they will work better for your business.

cruelty free makeup and covid-19 working
Make sure all products are closed once they have been used, and then cleaned between clients.

Give your work area a deep clean

Cleaning your work area is going to become something that you just have to get used to doing on a regular basis. If you are freelance you will need to ensure that you clean your work area between clients. Think about what you need to make sure this is as efficient as possible. Working on one client isn’t an issue but a wedding morning or fashion show where you will have multiple clients in a fast-paced environment things could get messy! You must do whatever you can to make sure you don’t cross-contaminate. I recommend multiple brush sets and palettes. Once one client is finished, all brushes and palettes used can be put in a sealed bag and thoroughly cleaned once home.

Use disposables where you can

It makes sense that the less that you have to clean the better when it comes to being a makeup artist, which is why it is recommended that you use disposable tools where you can. Never double-dip with your makeup or mascara brush and using your hands to scoop out products is a big no-no! Use disposable (eco-friendly) spatulas to decant products from the pot onto your palette. Then you can discard the disposables and then use a clean palette for the next client.

Clean what you can’t throw away

The very nature of being a makeup artist means that you have products that you reuse for your clients. The guidelines for protecting yourself during the post-Covid-19 world means that you are going to need to find a way to ensure that these products can be cleaned between clients.

It is difficult to clean makeup, however, it is not impossible. Isoclean is one particular brand that is doing what it can to ensure products and tools that cannot be thrown away can be easily cleaned. This includes their Antimicrobial Brush Cleaner which is designed to keep your cosmetics, tools, and surfaces clean and sanitised.

As you can see, there is plenty to put in place. However, I can promise you that whilst it may feel overwhelming to start with once you get used to all of these things, they will feel like second nature and will be a much better way of working.

I hope this guide to post Covid-19 working has been helpful!

What is Airbrushing?

What is Airbrush Foundation?

Airbrushing can be Interpreted in many different ways…

When I speak to my brides during their makeup consultation they say they want to look airbrushed. I have come to understand what they mean is flawless and to have skin like the brides on Pinterest or out of a magazine.

I get where this idea comes from, but honestly, the pictures in magazines have been edited to look that flawless! It’s not real life!

No one will look like that even with the most skilled makeup artist. Unfortunately, if the skin has texture, makeup wont make it disappear. Makeup can certainly make it look more flawless but perfection isn’t possible. If the model’s skin is naturally good, it won’t be edited/airbrushed as much compared to skin with a lot of texture (bumpy spots, scars, hair etc). Either way, the final beauty or fashion image would have perfect skin and makeup.

Please see this example:

what is airbrushing

Natural photoshop editing. Blemish removal and contrast.

So that’s the effect of being airbrushed by phone app or a photoshop programme. Being airbrushed with makeup is the same idea but the method is very different!

The Airbrush Makeup Method:

There are types of foundation that claim to give an Airbrushed finish but the real way is with an airbrush gun, compressor and a specific airbrush foundation.

Airbrushing uses the power of compressed air to mist foundation gently across your skin using a very liquid airbrush foundation. The foundation is layered on the skin in thin layers, allowing the finish to be very sheer or a fuller coverage.

Benefits of Airbrush Foundation:

Although some think that airbrush makeup will be heavy giving the illusion of the magazine airbrushed look (as explained above). It is actually the exact opposite! Airbrush makeup allows your skin to radiate through the makeup allowing it to look very natural. Any imperfections (under-eye darkness, spot cover-up etc) can be concealed with your favourite concealer prior to the airbrush application. Airbrushing evens out skin tone, giving a blurred soft focus look to your makeup, allowing your skin to look naturally flawless.

what is airbrush foundation

bridal makeup lesson

Here you can see beautiful results with airbrush foundation. (Light to medium coverage and still able to see freckles.)

Using airbrush foundation you can easily build up layers to achieve a fuller coverage and the beauty of this method is the layers can also include blush, highlight and contour. Airbrush makeup should have a flawless, semi-matte finish.

Before and after bridal makeup by lucy jayne

The foundation formula is normally silicone-based which helps to cover lines, pores and imperfections. Other airbrush formulas can be water and oil-based.

The layers of the fine silicone-based formula are water and transfer-resistant which means it?s resistant to sweat and tears. It’s perfect bridal makeup application for all-day wear. I guarantee 10 hours, but my clients say it lasts longer!

When using airbrush foundation all other skin prep would be the same as with any foundation application. Prep the skin according to the skin type i.e. For oily skin use an oil-controlling moisturiser and a mattifying primer.

Adjust the skin prep for the finish you want i.e. If the client wants a real glow, use an illuminating primer and you can add a ‘glow’ with the airbrush highlighter.

Hygienic: The airbrush never directly touches the face, preventing cross-contamination.

Suitable of all skin types: Especially good for sensitive skin as reduces skin sensitivity and airbrush makeup is hypoallergenic.

Versatile: Can be used for many different aspects i.e. make-up, body paint, hair colour…

As an artist, I love using my airbrush to create beautiful skin but equally, I have always had a place in my repertoire for traditional foundations. Personally I don’t like to think one method is better than another especially when so many traditional foundations come in so many formulas!

Any makeup can make you the prettiest version of yourself you can be, it doesn't have to be airbrush and there are many times it isn't. The correct application for your own personal needs is more important.

Bridal Makeup Trial – 7 ways to get the best experience.

How to prepare for your bridal makeup trial.

bridal makeup trial
Bridal makeup trial and how it translates to the wedding day

Here are some handy tips for brides to consider when booking a bridal makeup consultation & trial.

Lucy Jayne

What is the difference between a consultation and bridal makeup trial?

Your bridal makeup appointment will last approximately two hours and the consultation and trial are normally done at the same appointment.

The Consultation

All of your makeup requirements will be discussed, you and your artist will look at any inspiration you may have. This is also a good time to go through your wedding day timings and put together the running times of the morning.

The Trial

This is the full run-through of your wedding day makeup, the artist will apply the makeup in the way they think you want to look. It may be perfect on the first go but with your guidance, changes can be made and eyelashes applied if required. You shouldn’t leave disheartened so please voice any concerns if you are not 100% happy. Makeup artists are perfectionists and people pleasers so we want you to love everything about your experience. We want you to tell us if something isn’t right.

If you can book your hair and makeup on the same day it is helpful seeing your bridal beauty look come together. I recommend booking early with your makeup artist and hairstylist and hopefully if the dates work you can be accommodated on the same trial day.

Find a Look that is You

Before social media was huge, brides used to ‘scrapbook’ makeup and hair looks from magazines which were so cute. Now life is so much easier with Pinterest if you haven’t discovered the rabbit hole of inspiration you should take a look! It’s easy to make mood-boards of the different aspects of your wedding so it’s always handy to bring along any inspiration you have. whether it’s a makeup board of one picture or 20 it doesn’t matter. It helps your artist visualise your bridal look a get a feel of the day. We love to see photos of your wedding dress, colour scheme, bridesmaid dresses, hairstyle at your bridal makeup trial.

Beauty Treatments

Are you thinking of glamming up by having a spray tan or semi-permanent lashes? When it comes to your skin colour after having a spray tan, I can always colour match your colour if it changes by the wedding day. However, it’s going to be helpful for you to see how the makeup looks on the skin tone you plan to have on the wedding day. For example in the winter my skin is fair and my natural undertones are pink (cool), but when I have a tan-especially a fake tan, they change to yellow (warm). This will have an effect on the overall finished makeup look.

Semi-permanent lashes are never an issue if that’s the type of lash you like. I do provide the option of strip or individual lash that you can try at your trial. I will say that things can get a little tricky when it comes to LVL Lash Lifts. It a treatment that looks great on natural lashes but if you are a bride that wants the fullness of a strip lash/individual lash set. It is hard to apply the false lashes once the natural lash has had a lash lift. (if you are unsure about this we can discuss it at your trial or prior).

What should you wear?

It’s important to think about what style of top you choose to wear for your makeup trial. Imagine trying to envisage your soft and romantic bridal makeup look with a neon hoodie! Pretty distracting right? Opt for a Neutral top. It doesn’t have to be ivory but just as long as the colour is soft it won’t be too distracting and will complement the makeup. You will really get to feel it coming together especially if you are able to style your hair similar to how you plan to dress it on the wedding day.

Who will you bring?

Who are you bringing with you to the trial? It goes without saying that you want someone there that you know will be supportive, give kind and honest opinions and who will enjoy the experience. If any members of your bridal party are also having a trial the above info also applies to them as well. Obviously they are there to feel and look beautiful but most importantly to compliment you, the bride. Not overshadow you.

What is your vibe?

If there is a specific way you like your makeup done really sharp bold eyeliner? Or products that you couldn’t live without?  Feel free to come wearing that part of your makeup so the artist can see how you like it to be done. Bring products that you love using if you want to include it in your wedding makeup or a colour that you love or I may have something in my makeup armour that is comparable.

I know it’s exciting when you get things booked in but there is no need to rush booking your consultation in, especially if it’s a year or more until you get married.

However if having your makeup applied by a stranger makes you feel anxious you should request an early trial to put your mind at ease and then book another ‘refresher’ trial closer to the wedding date.

2020 is the year of individuality. I have been in the wedding industry for a long time and it is evolving. This means brides are no longer pressured to find a style that is pigeon-holed into the ‘traditional’ or ‘boho’ category.

Brides are inclined to create a mood for their wedding instead of following a particular trend.

With that in mind I am finding more brides want to feel relaxed and create a beauty look which feels like them on a really good day… Actually on a really awesome day!
